Default Purchasing a used Ezgo, general question

Looking at a 2002 Ezgo. 36v

I know nothing about Ezgo, so need
some help on what to look for at purchase.

Has a spindle lift
10" wheels and larger tires

Also, is $2500 a decent price with these upgrades? Batteries are 4 years old, he says they hold a good charge and are in good shape. I know the batteries may be a concern.

Here are some pics from his ad.

Thanks for any input!

From a private seller i would call it a decent deal, not awesome. Looks to be in nice shape, but consider the batteries on their last year. If you got 2 years more out of them, you did good. Pretty much add around $800 or so for a new set of batteries. You could ask that it be taken to a local shop for a discharge test to get real results of battery health (we charge $35 for that). Then possibly use the results, if not so good, as a negotiating tool. 60 minutes or more discharge score is the industry standard of a passing score. (how long can the batteries support a 75 amp load without falling below 31.5 volts)

Same here, that's a pretty good deal in my area, even given the age of the batteries.

If it comes with a QE charger, you might as well figure you will be needing a new charger very soon. The QE is not a good charger! As the guys said, looks like a pretty good deal. New batteries are in your near future. Good luck - RAY

Prices vary a lot based on region. For negotiation purposes, besides the advise already given, I'd check the zerks to see if he's been greasing according to the owners manual. Also check for slop in steering and see if the brakes stop in accordance with the owners manual. Also check for rust on the battery tray.

None of these are deal-breakers, just price negotiating points.

Also ask how he maintained his batts. Many people confuse lead/acid batts with NiCds and believe you have to run them down before charging.

I got lucky. I bought a buggy from a guy that only charged his buggy when it got sluggish, but still got 9 years out of them.

Looks like batteries are the main concern. I'm going to look at it today. Thanks for all the input!

It's a series cart so it won't be very fast - they are good so long as speed is not your main performance objective. If the controller, solenoid, cables, and F&R have not been upgraded you will be doing that in the future.... big tires and 4 passengers (most people add a rear seat) put extra load on the system...

A series cart can be made to go fast, but it ain't cheap.
