Default Hoy Hoy

Sorry, I've been gettin' up to speed at work.

Anyway, I remember a certain someone commenting on their phone. Here's mine. Leather feet. Metal Dial. Heavy enough to be a lethal weapon, without the more modern added weights. We used to only dial four digits, so this was from the "mainland". I used to live near Southern Bell in the late 60s, early 70s and raided their dumpster regularly on Tybee Island, GA. They actually encouraged me, and weren't worried about liability back then.

Back then, it was more fun to go to the landfill than Six Flags or Disneyland.

It still works as well as it did the day it rolled off the assembly line. In fact, there's no static at all, like more modern 70s phones developed.

Nice! I'd much rather that than the VoIP phone that does everything but make coffee that is on my desk now.

I'm sure there's an app for that. Unfortunately it will be hackable by your neighbors. I have a friend that hacked into his neighbor's wireless printer and made it print out porno pics.

My phone's unhackable, and unlike our cordless phones, it still works when the power's down.

If you've ever disected one of these beasts, it's amazing the way the dialer pulses based on ancient and highly reliable technology - a switch.

I remember when touchtone phones first came out, I could whistle and make it do weird things.

I grew up with the wall mount version. We were uptown when we got a long cord for the handset. You know one that stayed tied in a knot.

well there is a added feature for a phone of this vintage......unless you show them how, most kids these day would have no clue of how to call anyone using it.....lol

I too remember when speed dialing was forcing the rotary dial to return faster

While your rotary dial phone may be "unhackable" it's fairly easy to bug.

The speaker used in the earpiece is a very effective omnidirectional microphone and the click suppressor can be replaced with one that also contains a transmitter that is powered by the phone system and uses the handset cord as an antenna. That alone will give anyone with the proper receiving equipment, both sides of the phone conversations and with a bit of judicious reworking of the hook switch, the mike is still live when the handset is hung up.

I unfortunately remember phones that didn't even have dials. You had to talk to the operator and give her the number.

Please don't take this the wrong way. My grandmother was one of those operators when she and my grandfather first got married. She showed me pictures of them working. I thought that was the coolest thing.

I was an installer for western Electric, when we had to crawl new wires in behind the switch boards you knew who the easy operators were. They were the ones that didn't clamp their knees together!
