Re: G16 loud rear end
Ok, looks like the bushing are bad in the primary, which is also a good Indicator that rollers are bad and possibly weights are shot as well. I'd also take a look at the wearing surface of the sliding sheave, it's probably shot too!! Probably need Block or CG to come in to evaluate, as I've only had a few weeks with a car that new!!
It appears to me, that the secondary isn't working properly either. Need to see if secondary clutch shaft (Tranny input shaft) is loose. Meaning, see if the shaft will move up and down, forward and backward, and in and out!! It shouldn't!! Spin it and feel for roughness when turning, with belt removed!! With belt removed, and tranny in neutral, spin the secondary clutch for noise!! Has the spring seat slid back against the tranny case? Causing the noise? I'm out of ideas!!... |

Re: G16 loud rear end
That pic is part of the problem. And it should be dry.
But don't spend money yet!! I think you need to be looking at a Plowman clutch!! But the secondary clutch and input shaft need to be found fault free first!! |

Re: G16 loud rear end
I'm concerned that the primary sheave will show to be worn out, not worth rebuilding!!
Don Plowman can set you up with a great HD set of clutches!! You will love the difference in performance!! Are you a Drag racer? Are you watching Seattle?? |

Re: G16 loud rear end
here is pics of the "too worn out primary clutch" they been talking about. if its too warn here, it will ruin your new parts in less than a year for sure using it for HD use (maybe much sooner) . this one was too worn out for good repair, it would always eat rollers & get stuck closed if rebuilt/reused.

Re: G16 loud rear end
I think your car also falls into the broken air filter bracket welds!! Need to take that apart and see if that bracket has broken welds that hold it to the generator bracket!! That makes a heck of a racket also!!

Re: G16 loud rear end
Before I'd worry about broken brackets or screwed up clutches -- I would verify that there is oil in the rear end and that it's not full of chunks of iron or gears. I'm amazed no one has suggested changing the gear oil in the rear. I wouldn't drive it or even start it till I checked the oil.
