drain plug
The oil drain plug on my 92 G9 is striped. Just great. I hope I get this new to me cart going perfect soon. A 1992 with mechanical problems go figure . What to use for a new plug? Just re-tap and oversize the plug? The plug in there already says oversize.

Re: drain plug
I always use a time cert on engine related items. Same as helicoil but is for a bolt that gets removed. You may be able to tap it bigger but may lose seal.

Re: drain plug
Taped out with 1/2 inch for now. Stripped out pretty good for the 1st almost 1/4 inch so not many threads left. A guy I know sugested taping out to 14mm. I need a tap for that. No one around here has a 14. Will have to order or drive 45 miles to the "big" town. Snugged up good thou. Still a slight leak, but the side case gasket is bad on top and I cheated and JB welded for temporary. Shaft seal may weep some also. So not sure if its all drain plug.Just a few drops overnight. Going to pull the engine this winter do the repairs right. Going to keep a close eye on it for now. I should be ok.

Re: drain plug
With having multiple issues like this and temporary fixes you may want to look at when you pull it in winter possibly going with a big block conversion if you find the repairs getting up there in $.

Re: drain plug
You could use a pipe tap or for now just use high temp RTV.

Re: drain plug
The carts been neglected for sure. Engine fins were clogged pretty good. Lots of oil from the bad cover gasket. Its come along way in the short couple weeks Ive had it. Engine is going on the bench this winter. I foresee no big issues. Oil plug is the worse problem. Taping with 14mm or just going to the helicoil or time cert will likely solve that problem. Ill check the compression soon that will tell me something about the health of the engine. It starts and runs good so likely no major problems
