1977 Marathon Carb
Hey guys, working on my engine I've noticed the carb is the Mukuni
BV-24 Shouldn't a 77 have a -18 carb? I was going to buy a rebuild kit when I noticed the difference, I assume the PO's must have changed the carb sometime. Anyone see any issues with keeping the -24? |

You are correct. It should have the bv-18. The bv-24 I believe is an '88 only carb. It has a bigger main jet in it. I'm not sure what else is different. I wouldn't be afraid of using it.

Re: 1977 Marathon Carb
Was reading the manual someone posted and found this.
The golf car is equipped with a Mikuni BV type carburetor and a fuel pump. Cars manufactured from Feb. 23, 1976 to Oct. 3, 1977 (serial nos. 104768 thru 137704) are equipped with a model BV-24 (24mm) carburetor. Cars manufactured on and after Oct. 4, 1977 (serial no. 137705 and subsequent) are equipped with a model BV-18 (18mm) carburetor. The operational characteristics and repair procedures are the same for both carburetors, unless noted 11for model BV-18," or 11for model BV-24." Guess it is supposed to have the -24 carb That's nice because the 1988 BV-24 carb can be had for $68 on Ebay |
