Default Timing.

Ok so I have this little 89 marathon and it seems like the timing is all over the place. I as working on pulling the front off the motor to get at the pulsar and wonder how the fly wheel pulls off. Thinking of a harmonic balancer puller would do the trick?

What do you guys do to pull it?

If I do not find anything interesting or obviously wrong if feel I will have to pull the motor. I am at my wits end with this cart.

Don.

Default Re: Timing.

Could be the pulser that is behind the ballancer. I used a puller to remove and it went easey.
Do you have the 2pg engine or the 3pg? 89 was a mid year change for the engines. 2pg's have a verticle muffler and the 3pg has a horizontal muffler to make it simple to know. The 3pg pulser is set to the marks and that is all that is needed most times. I am not sure on the 2pg.
How are you checking the timing? are you getting eratic spark or no spark at times or what?
