Default 1988 2 cycle governor

I recently purchased a 1988 ezgo marathon 2 cycle and i have not got it running yet (waiting on carburetor) but i was looking it over today and noticed the governor arm seems to be pretty far from the clutch, maybe 3 or 4". I also noticed that it really isn't all that easy to move. How far should the governor arm be from the clutch and how easy should it be to move?

If your going to keep it, it rides pretty close to the clutch. Maybe an inch or two. The governor arm should move very freely. The cable connects to the carburetor. You will have to play with adjustment to make it work correctly. Hard to tell you what is accurate without the carb.

I would like to get rid of it just for the speed boost but I'm afraid of someone else driving it and blowing the thing up.

Honestly, I don't think it's possible with the stock carb. Blowing it up isn't the issue. It's more safety factory of who is driving. If it's all sensible adults, take it off.
