98 TXT Leaf Spring Issue
Hi all,
been a member here for a while (had a cart since 2006) but posted very little although this forum has been a wealth of information. I've never really come across anything I couldn't figure out until now. One of the stock leaf springs finally bit the dust so I decided to replace them with HD springs. Bought the 3 leaf spring kit from Golf Cart King. Removed the old broken spring, replaced the bushings and started to install the new one and that's when things got weird. I can't make it fit and now I wonder am I doing something wrong or did I get the wrong springs? See from the pictures below: the new springs look to be the same size as the old ones. If I mount the ends first then the spring sits about 1- 1.5 inches below the spring mount bracket on the axle. If I start at the back end and match everything up then the front hole doesn't match. Do I need to take the shock off? If I do that then I'm going to have to get a longer shock to fit it afterwards. From what I've read and seen that's not usually a problem. Any advice? Thanks. |

Re: 98 TXT Leaf Spring Issue
Having just replaced my leaf springs on my TXT, here are my suggestions.
1. First, bolt spring onto axle, using the two U-bolts. Make sure the round protusion on the top of the spring fits into the hole by the axle. 2. Next, install the front bolt through the spring, with the bolt that goes through the spring at the back of the cart removed. I found it best to have the wheel and tire installed. It helped to be able to push and pull on the tire to get the hole aligned with the bolt. You may want to raise or lower the jack stand you show in one of the pictures to help with alignment. 3. Last step is to install the rear bolt through the spring assembly. Again using the jack stand to get things lined up. |

I changed the springs on mine and had no problems. The back bracket swivels so just push the axel towards the front till your bolt lines up.

Re: 98 TXT Leaf Spring Issue
Thanks.
That is what I'm trying to do but I have not been able to get it quite yet. The way it is now, the shock is pretty much extended as far as it will go and so I'm not able to push the wheel around. I'll play around with the jack and see if that helps. |

Re: 98 TXT Leaf Spring Issue
Take the shock off. When the cart is on the springs they will flatten out from the weight and then you can mount the shock. Do that and it should go in.
