Controller Code 39 - Please Help

Hi Guys - you have all helped me with a few EZGOs through the years. I was hoping you would be able to help me out with a Cushman (also built by Textron) problem. It is pictured to the left. There is no golf cart service on the island where I live - so it is all on me to figure out.

This is a bought new (2 years ago) 72 volt AC Hauler Pro. It is always garaged and in perfect shape. Parked it last night, and it won't move today. Still fully charged, but was not charged during the night. So, parked it running fine and next key turn - no go.

Backup buzzer, headlights (operated by ignition switch), and on board charger do work. I hear click with key turn from controller (I think) (but could be a slight double click).

Can't name controller type - it is enclosed in box and I have to remove power dump bed to get to it - so super inconvenient. But there is a window to see the code. Controller gives me a 39 error. I think it's a Curtis (one red, then count yellows, then two red, and count again)

Below is what I think this means. But I don't know what to do with this info. Any assistance/guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Set/Clear Conditions
Set: With the main
contactor
commanded closed,
the capacitor bank
voltage (B+
connection terminal)
did not charge to B+
Clear: Cycle KSI

For 2) cause - can I clean/check "main contactor tips?"
For 4) cause - I found three fuses and they are all fine - can't find any others.
I've no idea what a KSI is, or how to cycle.

DON'T KNOW WHERE TO START.

Update: Now after sitting for a bit I have noticed two different error codes flashing. A 52 and the 39 mentioned above. Apparently (if I'm right) the 52 is an "OEM" designated code - and I have no idea how to find out what that means - Googling hasn't helped - and I'll have to start calling around tomorrow . But last time I tried contacting Cushman for another issue didn't get me anywhere

So maybe someone can give me a gentle nudge in the right direction.

Seen this before. First replace the fuse on top of the AC controller (this match up with your equipment?).

I don't know if I have a fuse on top of the controller. I am going to get a look at it first thing tomorrow. I'm in Hawaii - so it's late here now. And I have to remove some stuff to get to it - hopefully not as much as I originally thought.

Dumb question - when you say AC controller - is there only one controller, or is there also a DC controller on an AC cart??? I would assume the AC is the main controller - the one with the LEDs displaying the fault code?

Not to doubt what you were seeing but make sure you are reading the codes correctly. I find a lot of folks read the blinks wrong on these Curtis ACs. Red blinks 1x (indicating 1st digit of code) yellow blinks Nx (indicating value of first digit 1~9) then red blinks 2x and yellow for value of second digit.

I am guessing this is not the case and you are correct since usually this misreading results in something like a 15 code and a 26 code when its actually a 56

I also find more often than not, depending on the OEM, whenever OEM specific codes in that range of 50some to 70ish show up, they don't provide any info in the handset since they don't seem to be very efficient at programming VCL.

Since it sounds like you have an EZGO product then most likely Curtis wrote it for them and a handset may tell you exactly what that code means. Even a dealer level one will work for this. I don't seem to have any EZGO Curtis AC manuals to even check - they usually seem to follow similar fault numbering structures.

OK - more clues. Here's a pic of the controller. I don't see any fuse on top.

I did talk to my sales guy, that talked to an EXGO tech. I have the tech's number and can call him tomorrow. We'll see. :)

The sales guy did say that he was told that error 52 (or any OEM code) can have something to do with the throttle, and suggested checking that it was returning all the way - I have read about that here before, and had that problem on another cart one time, and that doesn't seem to be the problem. He also asked if water could have gotten into the pedal box - and it's possible, but unlikely - other than from a quick hose down - and not for 6 months or more. I do hear a nice click when pedal is depressed

I did discover this - maybe it will ring a bell with someone.

When key is off I get a 39 and 52 error when in Rev and/or For. And only a 39 when in N.

With key on (no lights), and with key all the way over right, which turns on lights, I only get a 39 in all situations (F/R/N).

So the 52 error only shows when key is off, and then only in For and Rev, not N.

Perhaps this means something to someone who knows more than me - which means everyone here. :)

Ok, so seeing the pics, I see your controller doesn't have a fuse on top like many do (attached at that empty pocket on yours). What type and brand solenoid is on that model, please give all details possible, like solenoid model number. Sorry, I don't have access to Ezgo factory website at home, and don't carry the Cushman stuff.
