Re: 1999 motor upgrade 36 Volt
If you want speed and torque, the best upgrade would be going to 48 volt. I get around 19 mph with plenty of torque with the stock motor with mine. You will need to replace the controller to at least a 400 amp Alltrax, new 48 volt solenoid, either add 2 more 6 volt batteries, or go with a new set of 8 volts, and a 48 volt charger. Speed motors usually sacrifice torque. If you're willing to sacrifice torque, then the motor will work ok for you.

Re: 1999 motor upgrade 36 Volt
So I can keep the motor that is in the 36 volt cart? Do I need to upgrade cables besides the controller and solenoid? Will the battery meter that is in the cart still work? Do I have to worry about any other electrical components? Thanks for the help!!!

Re: 1999 motor upgrade 36 Volt
Stock cables and solenoid were marginal when new. Stock 36v series motor runs real nice on 48v, I did it too. Stock energy meter won't read correctly (but the 10-led bar meter has a bad reputation anyway).

You'll also need a 48V battery charger. If go to a 6x8V 48V battery pack and the 12V accessories are powered by two of the 6V batteries in the existing 36V pack, you'll have to get a 48V to 12V DC converter or add a separate 12V battery to run the accessories. |
