Default 2 clunks and a no go

So, I'm playing golf yesterday using my 02, 36 volt, non PDS, series TXT. On the 4th hole I go to take off and hear a clunk from the rear. I thought maybe a club fell out and somehow lodged underneath. So I stop and look...Nothing. So, I take off again and another clunk. So I look underneath again and again, nothing. When I try to go again the cart does not go and I hear the motor freely spinning but with a pronounced metallic sound as if a gear is spinning freely. It was put on a flatbed and carried back to the cart barn at the course and upon pushing it in the barn, I could hear a loose part in the rear slapping around. I'm thinking, maybe a brake stuck on and when the I pressed the accelerator something had to give, most likely in the gear box? Any thoughts?

Sounds like a striped brake hub,

you have to be able to see the castle nut in the middle of your rear wheels, if you have a center cap covering the nut, you need to remove it, when you can see the castle nut holding the hub on the axle, --- this will take two people to do, one of you put your foot on the brake and push the go pedal easy, JUST for a second, and the other needs to see if the NUT in the middle of the wheel is spinning, and the wheel is not, start with the driver side, but check both , this is a common problem with ezgo, let us know what you find, its a easy fix if this is your problem. If it's not the brake hub. It could be a broken axle.
