selonoid rxv overheating
Hello,
I have 2008 ezgo rxv with a conversion kit to curtis controller. The conversion is working well and the cart goes fine. Recently , I noticed that the solenoid is overheated. The problem started yesterday afternoon, The cart was ON but when pressing throttle pedal , it didn't run. After cooling the selonoid , it worked well in the evening. Today's afternoon , The cart worked for 10 minutes , Then the pedal didn't respond again .when i restarted the cart , the solenoid clicked twice "the cart went off" . It stayed off for 2 hours although the solenoid cooled down. Now it works. So I expect it will repeat same behaviour again. I have: - ezgo curtis conversion kit (6 - 8v) https://shop.txtsv.com/danaher-6-8v-...conversion-kit - original selonoid of rxv 2008 - original brakes of rxv 2008 - original motor of rxv 2008 - four batteries 12 V each ( 52 when charged ) also, the selonoid heats without any load "the cart isn't moving at all" So , Any one expects what the problem is ? |

But If you suspect any part , I can check it. Again , The cart works well for sometimes then it stops ( either the car doesn't respond to pedal or the solenoid clicks twice). The motor brakes resistance is 27 Ohm. I checked the run plug and it's fine. |

Re: selonoid rxv overheating
Thank you
I want to ensure that we are talking about the same solenoid. These are pictures of my solenoid. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1O...w?usp=drivesdk https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ZUk...w?usp=drivesdk Is this the solenoid you mentioned that it's tiny and no longer used ? Thank you |

Re: selonoid rxv overheating
No, actually you have the better solenoid. I have seen that solenoid fail, but it has been very few, like 2 ever.

It is possible that the solenoid contacts have gone south. A new solenoid is inexpensive enough to try replacing it. The RXV pulls in the solenoid with 36V, then drops it back to 28.8V to hold it in. This is to reduce heating. So if your solenoid is heating up, maybe the coil is going bad, or the contacts may be chattering under the reduced hold-in voltage. Try changing it out and see if that solves the issue. |
