Default Equus Tach Erratic

Well, I got a Equus tach with the inductive pick-up. Hooked it up and it's erratic. Sometimes no reading, sometimes what seems correct...then it goes really low...

I did turn the pick-up around as suggested in the instructions....but then it doesn't work at all. Yes, I set it for 1 cylinder.

A google search only got me what I've tried as well as some folks saying theirs was bad and a new one fixed the problem.

Any thoughts?

You may have to put a sleeve around the plug wire so it fits snug in the assembly. Make sure you cut a notch in the sleeve for the pick-up. I used clear tubing.

That's a good tip using the tubing/sleeve. I too have the same tach, had the same problem. I just used some small pieces of a business card just where the sensor body grabs the wire, and it works great, although I get some kind of coil signal interference above 5000 rpm. I bought a new coil with plug wire and it solved the "grip" issue, but not the 5000 rpm issue. It's a nice tach though.

Update...tested in on my '72 Plymouth.

Doesn't work at all from the inductive...but does work from the green wire to the coil. Equus is sending me another inductive pick-up.
