Default Battery tray for DS anyone try?

Has anyone put aluminum sheets on top of the brackets so that the batteries aren't exposed to the elements. My carts brackets are wearing down from old age and battery acid. I was thinking of just replacing the brackets but than I started thinking aluminum sheets cut to fit might be a better idea. I don't think weight would be a issue.

I have cut plywood to line the battery tray. Aluminum would provably work as well.

If your batteries ever boil over, or any battery acid spills out it will just sit on top of the aluminum and corrode. You could do a sheet of aluminum but I would definitely put holes in it to help drain it

I would use stainless steel.

Anyone have any suggestions for reinforcing or replacing the aluminum battery trays? Some corrosion has led to thinning of some areas of my trays.

Unicorn: I have the same issue. My first idea was to add aluminum corner rails on top of the existing ones and bolt them in place. I believe they are 1 1/4 corners. I would use the 1/8 think ones. But than I thought about just adding aluminum sheets on top that way the sheets would be holding in by the whole circumference.

I had some 1/8 inch aluminum sheets. I measured the openings and took them over to the local Htg and Air contractor and he cut them on his stomp shear. They fit perfect. I plan on adding a few drain holes to each before fastening them in with aluminum pop rivets. I have also considered coating them with POR15, spray bed liner or spray undercoating but I haven't done it yet.

corrosion is from battery acid, anything you put in the battery tray will trap battery acid in the tray increasing the potential for corrosion
you'd be better off doing a monthly baking soda wash

Now I'm thinking maybe just some seaboard material as a base on top of the brackets. Much easier to cut and and will not corrode. Easy to replace if I ever needed to. It would add some reinforcement and very light material.

That looks like a good choice. I googled it and found some .125 thickness. Depending on strength, that may be an option.
