New to me cart has electrical issue.
Guys, I sure could use your input here. I have a 2004 club car DS IQ cart. AQ0421-397926, it has a Curtis model: 1510-5201 controller. I can ride this cart at times up to 7 miles no problem. At other times I can go 3 miles and it just slowly looses power till it stops. I can turn the key off and set f/n switch to neutral turn key back on set switch to forward and go right back to driving normal. But it seems once this happens it becomes more frequent. I do not have to set tow switch to reset cart. Your diagnosis is much appreciated. Thanks. Oh yeah is there a way to donate to this site by way of PayPal?

I do not have a backup buzzer, this was used as a hunting cart and was silenced.

A bad speed sensor or MCOR could make that happen I believe. Have you tried picking your foot up and then pressing the accelerator down again with any results when it stops on you? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: New to me cart has electrical issue.
I have done that with the foot petal but to no avail. It just looses it's power till I stop and cut the key off and put it into neutral. Then it clears whatever fault has happened and I can go on my way. Almost like the controller might be getting hot and a component is shutting down but just not sure.

Re: New to me cart has electrical issue.
Might be a bad key switch or solenoid. I would check for any damage at the solenoid first. You might find something. Check the connections there.

Re: New to me cart has electrical issue.
Sounds like something is causing the controller to shut down, I would suspect the motor brushes.

Re: New to me cart has electrical issue.
Does the problem seem to be the worst when you're driving slow for a period of time? I'm thinking this may be a result of Thermal Cutback, a safety feature built into the controller that weakens output when the temperature gets high. Once it cools off, it works again. Flipping the cart to neutral and trying it again is purely coincidental. There is nothing that this could do to reset anything. A solenoid failure may be a possibility. If the solenoid throws a MAIN WELDED code in the controller, the cart will operate slowly. Once you open the solenoid and close it again, it may or may not throw the code and will work fine until you cycle it again.
