need help identifying controller part on an ezgo
hi all and thanks for your help. I am trying to repair my fathers ezgo cart. I bought him the cart a few years back. It developed a problem where it would run and then suddenly lose all power (batteries were fine) and it would have to 'cool off' and we thought we detected smoke from the controller area.....
so i was planning to replace the controller. I took the protective dome off hoping to find part numbers etc but i could not find a label and the controller looked like one I had not seen before. Could you help me identify the part i need to order or aftermarket part? thanks! Nick |

Re: need help identifying controller part on an ezgo
if you are going to replace the controller.
First label every wire/cable and where it is connected to the controller and solenoid. Once you do and disconnect it all and remove the controller, you will find the actual part number on the side of it......the side that is currently facing down. |

Looks to be a series controller but like nuke said, label everything and the numbers are on the bottom. Does it have the FnR switch next to your leg and a rod going to a box in front of the controller box ? If so, you may have FnR switch problems as apposed to the controller..

yes it does have the FR switch in the middle buy the legs and the rod that goes to a control module located in front of the controller compartment.
how would i determine which may be the culprit? thanks!!! |

A volt meter and a wiring diagram are your friends
Do you get any action now when you have it in F or R, key on and pedal pressed ? |

Re: need help identifying controller part on an ezgo
ahah i have the volt meter =) .
it will drive full speed etc for about 15 seconds and then it may completly lose power. maybe go a little bit longer like 8 seconds and then die. then it wont go at all. direction does not seem to matter too much. |

Re: need help identifying controller part on an ezgo
If it is drivable and nothing was done to it other than wait a few minutes I would think you have controller failure or the motor has issues and is causing the controller to overheat. Right after it dies, carefully check components for heat and yes they can burn you.. Also make sure you don't have any cables rubbing on the frame anywhere. If it ends up being the controller and all you want to get it running again you can probably pick up a good used controller and be back in biz..

Re: need help identifying controller part on an ezgo
My 98 TXT series cart controller had no label. I was replacing it with an Alltrax so the model was pretty irrelevant to me, but my curiosity was further peaked when I found it had a motor dated 2002.
