Reed switch
If the reed switch is bad. Will the cart still move? And just not charge?

Re: Reed switch
With a bad reed switch, the cart will not move.
Although the reed switch is opened by a magnet in the charger's plug, it has nothing to do with charging. The reed switch's intended purpose is to prevent the cart from being driven away while charger is plugged into cart, but the unintended result is stranding the cart out in the middle of nowhere. |

Re: Reed switch
If you have a bad reed switch, don't make the same costly mistake I did. My replacement only lasted a couple of years, so I ended up bypassing it. At first I ran my charger cord through the steering wheel, to remind me to unplug it. I've since stopped doing that, and never had a problem remembering.

Re: Reed switch
JohnnyB and others have a picture, but if you remove the cover of the charger port, you'll see a small red and small white wire going to it. It just slides in a slot inside the port. To test it, you can see if you have pack positive on the spade connector just outside the port.

Re: Reed switch
I fought a battle with my cart today to get out the old battery rack and install the new one. The cart held the upper hand for a while, but I prevailed in the end.
But in doing so, I pulled that connection apart that I made just last week on the reed switch. The more I think about it, the more I think I oughta just disable this thing for an off-road cart. Its bound to leave me stranded sooner or later if I leave it on there, and I feel pretty confident that I have enough sense to not drive the cart off while its being charged. What is the most efficient way to disable it? I have an idea, but I'm sure you guys have already figured out the best way. Thanks! |
