Default Is PDS junk?

As some of you know and now I know!! that I have a 2000 TXT PDS. After reading a few threads here, I get the feeling that the PDS is not the system to have. As I know very little about these system, Why?

PDS is a great system, it's the DCS carts that folks tend not to like.

Is the PDS system fairly easy to increase the speed? I don't care about 30mph, but...

Cables 4ga or 2ga and controller 400 or 500 from scottyb and high speed PDS motor you'll be flying. Check out Urogator and johnnieb threads, good stuff.

The PDS is the easiest system to increase speed.

"The good";
A simple $10 "chip" will get you about 18 mph on stock tires. An upgraded speed controller will get you about 24 mph on stock tires.

"The bad";
PDS carts with larger tires have been known to burn up the stock speed controllers more often then series carts.

Any buggy is designed to run on a golf course with stock tires and only one passenger besides the driver. Runs are limited in length and on mild hills, with a rest period at each hole. If you plan on doing more than that, upgrades may be necessary. Upgraded controller, FNR, cables, and solenoid eliminate most problems.

Things that "may" require upgraded beyond stock:

Bigger tires, upgraded motor, different rear end gears, off-road use, steep hills, creeping along at slow speeds, driving for extended periods, and carrying heavy weight, such as four people or deer carcases, trailer, etc. Even on my stock buggy, driving for extended periods of time carrying four people (< 200 lbs each) resulted in two melted solenoids.

Any type system, series, DCS, and PDS will make a fine starting point.

Here is a good place to explore upgrade decisions:
