Speed Controller DCS fried
I replaced the F2 wire from my speed controller, and when I put the pin in the controller, it sparked and smoked. Could this happen because the controller was shot? It had 39 volts from the battery pack.

This could happen because the motor has a short in it or the F1 or F2 wire has a short in it.
Also this work should only be done with the run/tow switch in the TOW position so there would be no power present when you plug anything into the control. Working on a powered up control puts in danger of destruction. (not always but, sometimes) |

The cart is at my golf club, and it's hard to work on it up there. Monday I am going to bring it home and try to run down the problem. I know I have a short in it somewhere. So I guess test all the wiring and the motor.

Regarding my wiring, I have a 10 gauge wire running from the F2 pin on the speed controller to the S2 post on the motor. This is causing spark at the controller. I'm confused because on the schematics I have found the S2 post should be connected to the F/R switch with 6 gauge wire. Can anybody give me some adviceon this? Thanks

You are looking at the wrong schematics.
 A DCS cart will match one of these two schematics, the first one is for early model, the second for later models. The F1 and F2 wires are about 10Ga and they are connected directly to the Field (aka Stator) winding posts on the motor and nowhere else. On some sepex motors the field winding studs are labeled S1 and S2 while they are labeled F1 and F2 on other sepex motors. -------- Something is amiss if you are getting a spark connecting the field wires to the controller. With the Run/Tow switch in Tow, as stated in post #3, there should not be any voltage on either F1 or F2. Check the wiring according to the attached schematics. |

You were right, I had it on run. My F2 wire goes to S2 on the motor. When I switch to run, it sparks. Thanks
