EZGO wont move
Hello, I have a 1996 electric EZGO TXT 36 volt golf cart. It used to run but it needed batteries so it sat for about a year until I bought batteries. I finally got everything hooked up and now it wont move. At first solenoid would click and it would jolt forward than stop. I got a used solenoid and it did the same thing. For some reason the next day it just stopped clicking altogether. It has power on both sides ( the big bolt on each side) when it is just sitting (not sure if good or bad). It does make reverse buzzing sound if that matters. Any Ideas are greatly appriciated.

Re: EZGO wont move
Is it a series drive or a DCS?

Re: EZGO wont move
There is a 220 Ohm resistor connected between the large terminals on the solenoid, so you will read roughly the same voltage on both terminals whether the solenoid contacts are open or closed. (Should be nearly identical when closed and about 3-5 volts different when open)
The new batteries should be charged before the first use and charged after each use. Never let them set very long in a partially discharged state. The first step is getting the solenoid to click every time the pedal is pushed, when the key is on and a direction is selected. Attached is a schematic of a series drive with the solenoid activation circuit highlighted. |

Re: EZGO wont move
All the wiring looks right. Do you think I should get a new solenoid? Is there a way to test if its bad?

Re: EZGO wont move
Are you getting 36 volts on the small terminals of the solenoid when the pedal is pushed ?

If the solenoid clicks but 36v(+) is only on the battery side Big post and not on the controller (cable) side post then the solenoid is bad. (must remove resistor for this test) |

Sounds like something in your activation circuit. Check the forward micro switch, pedal switch, key switch, and reed switch if you have one.

Re: EZGO wont move
While it's not as pretty as JohnnyB's, here's the diagram I use. Follow the pack positive through the reed switch (interlock) "logic power" (control voltage in my industry), ignore the fuse and diode (unnecessary) through MS2, KS1, and MS3. Ignore MS4. If all make, your solenoid should click. Remove resistor to make troubleshooting easier.
