Default Yamaha 2008 YDRE Battery Charging Problems

The batteries in our golf cart are only 2 years old. It worked great last summer but this year the red light flashes on the charger after charging it for hours. We charged each battery with a car charger and they were all 100% but when using the Yamaha charger the green light never comes on to indicate it is fully charged. We've checked all of the cables. Don't know what else to look for.

Any ideas of what could be wrong?

Your charger is probably bad. These chargers have a fairly high failure rate.

I'm dealing with the same issue right now! I'm hoping that the imbalance error I'm getting will be solved once I have all 6 topped off and equal. Crossing fingers here, these chargers are pricey and I just got my Yamaha and charger last month

See if any of your light sequences match the manual

i am willing to guess the charger is one of the lightweight yamaha/moric high frequency chargers, not a yamaha oem Dpi charger. mind posting a pic of the charger to clear that up?

heres a breakdown as far as i know, since i seen them shipped from yamaha in '07.

this is a MAC charger. this 48v charger was used on G19, G22, and some early 2007 Ydre only. only thing i dont like about this charger is the "dc fuse" problem (early models with "fuse window", fixed), and the control board costs almost as much as a new DPI. overall, a great charger. the younger years of "multi-stage smart chargers".

this is a Yamaha/Moric charger. it was used from "mid-2007" forward, as the "standard issue" charger. its a "high frequency" charger. light-weight without a big heavy transformer like chargers of the past. not super reliable or servicable. the Scr's & capacitors are most common failure. software upgrades were done "08-008", blue dot on logic chip inside is newest. this charger has been replaced by a new version "jw9" charger, looks the same but shorter, and still troublesome for charge profiles.

heres the Yamaha/DPI charger. it was offered from 2008 model forward, as a alternate by yamaha to the dealers at additional cost (the only ones we ordered, until they refused to allow with 8x 6v setup). The most reliable one in my opinion. the conventional "transformer/SCR" MAC & DPI chargers are more reliable in my opinion. Yamaha thinks the Moric chargers are better/smarter with "equalization modes" and such, but i see higher failure rates. lets see if we can figure it out when we know what charger you have. if a new charger is needed when all is said-and-done, get a Dpi.
