Re: buying 1996 cart
Ok find the part number on the motor, it will start with a 5. I think I know what it is, and already know I like it. The tach sensor is unplugged (they thought for more speed) . You have a great start there. That baby's ready for a controller & a cable set, you'll be flying.

Re: buying 1996 cart
Here is the motor. I found this info on another site:
This is a General Electric separately excited motor which is rated at 4.3 Non-Peak HP @ 3500 RPM. It is designed for use with 48V Yamaha REGEN (G19, G22 & Drive) electrical systems. The motor mounts via a 19 tooth female spline coupler used with the Dana H12 axle. Installation of this motor (although the speed sensor is present and hooked up) removes the regeerative braking feature of the car (electronic downhill governor), but retains the roll away safety feature. |

Re: buying 1996 cart
I like that motor alot in a Yamaha. Put a controller in there, you will get a power & speed boost.

Re: buying 1996 cart
Would you mind giving your suggestion on specific upgrade? With the bigger motor that I already have, can I just do the controler? Or would something like one of Scottyb's kits be a better choice:
- 500 amp controller/ 400 amp solenoid/ 4 or 2 gauge cables - 400 amp controller/ 200 amp solenoid / 4 gauge cables - some other combination? I don't think I would ever lift the cart or put big wheels on but if I did, would you suggest something else? Thanks |

Re: buying 1996 cart
Either of the above combos would be a upgrade for both power & speed. I would not go too big with tires & lift. This motor is a torque and speed upgrade over stock, but it is more oriented toward high speed use, not low rpm torque use.

Re: buying 1996 cart
I'm going to change out the batteries and cables before I can upgrade controler. Do I need to get the speed sensor plugged back into the current controller?

Re: buying 1996 cart
I think I would, but won't harm anything to leave it off.
