Repair/cover up ideas?
Not sure if pasting links to images here works but I will try it. I have my cart for sale. It's an 01 DS gas. I'm asking $2200 for it and have gotten some interest on craigslist. I know values vary depending on area but I think it's a fair price. I just have this one bad place in the paint and am wondering how it might best be fixed or maybe covered with a decal or something. I know I'd never find paint to match it 100%. Just thinking it might be good to get some suggestions in case a potential buyer is concerned about it.
Here is the bad spot (left side over light): And here is a pretty good representation of the cart overall: |

Re: Repair/cover up ideas?
So, covering it up seems a better way to go? I'm thinking so too. Seems it would help to maybe sand that area smooth first. Any special tricks for doing that without causing another problem?

Take the windshield frame & top off, take it to a couple local body shops and get some estimates.
Something that small and easy to get at may only be a few buck side job for one of their guys. There's always one in there that could use the couple extra bucks.. |

Re: Repair/cover up ideas?
A good body shop will be able to get an exact match on the color. They will have a scanner and a mix station, the computer will tell them exactly how to mix the paint. Coverup will be a lot cheaper. A sign shop can make a custom decal for the exact size you need and what ever you want on the decal. The red baron is a good idea with that color cart. Be careful trying to fix that yourself, you can end up with something that looks worse. If you don't have bodyman experience, this is not the time to learn. If you want to smooth it out to put a decal on, pick up a cheap "DA" sander from some place like "Harbor Freight" and use some 220 grit paper and then some 320 grit. You will of course need air to run the DA. Again, be careful, you can very easily make a big mess of things in short order. You could also use an electric vibrating sander, with the same grit papers and the same cautions.
Nice looking cart, shame to get rid of it. (I saw your other thread, I think I would have decals made that said "Electric Hybrid" and let them wonder. Hey, it's true, it starts on electric and then switches over to gas ) |
