Default Electrical issue with G1

I have a J31 yamaha G1 that wont turn over. I have checked everything I can with it and I cant find anything wrong. It has new solenoids, the starter has been rebuilt and it has a new voltage regulator. I got a new stop switch and hooked it up; the four stop switch wires and the green and red wire from the starter started smoking and melting. The cart wont turn over at all. I ohm checked all the wires and checked to make sure all wires are grounded/ungrounded and they all check okay. The key switch turns 360* could it be something with the key switch or is a wire grounding out somewhere?

The key on my G1 definitely didn't turn a full 360 degs. Maybe 180 at the most.

I'd definitely start by getting a new key switch. It should only have 3 positions, not spin around.

I agree. They are not expensive at all. If you have melted wires you'll want to replace those asap.

I didnt melt the wires in the key switch. Only the new stop switch and the rubber weather connecters for the red and green wires leading to the starter. The key switch does work fine however because I have tested when the solenoids are grounded/ungrounded. It has to be something else

Ok, well, you either want help or not, right? The key switch isn't supposed to turn 360 degrees. If it does, it's bad, and could send power through to ground. That will melt wires. Not sure why you would ask for suggestions then tell people they are wrong. Good luck.

If it could be sending power through the ground then why are the green and red starter wires melting along with the stop switch wires?

Get yourself a wiring schematic and start tracing everything down until you find the problem. Worked for me and a lot of others here. The wiring on the G1 is not that complicated. If your not proficient with a schematic have someone who is help you.
Please remember that you are the one who said that your switch is turning 360 degs. That's not right and needs to be replaced before anything else is done.

Direct power to ground = melted wires.
