4" or 6" Lift???
Hello all,
I need some help from the "Golf Cart Brain Trust!!" I recently purchased a 1996 Club Car DS that is currently stock. I would like to make some modifications and I need your guidance as I am new to carts. The cart has the FE290 and the driven clutch is worn out. I have purchased a new one, with machining and upgraded spring, from Cart Parts+. I would like to run 14" wheels so I think I am limited to a 23" tire minimum (Cannot find 22" tires for 14" wheels). The help I need is with lift height. I plan to purchase either the 4" or 6" All Sports Super Sport lift. I want to keep it as low as possible due to the wife and kids using it in the future. Do I need to worry about the center of gravity being too high with the 6" lift? All Sports says the 4" will allow for 23" tires, but I do not want any rubbing/problems. I also plan to add the rear passenger seat. Do I need to replace the rear springs with the heavy duty springs? I plan to use the cart for light off road use. Does anyone have a similar set-up, pictures, or thoughts on my issues? Thank you in advance-Jason |

Re: 4" or 6" Lift???
My cart (see signature below) runs the 6" Allsports Super Sport double A-arm lift you're looking at. My tires are 22.5" diameter. Nobody has any notable trouble getting into it. I have a buddy on here who put a 4" on his '87 DS who now says he wishes he would have gone 6" instead.

Go for 6". Its not a huge difference but worth it. I have the 6" super sport. Its a great quality lift. I have 22" tires and they are kinda small on it. It could easily fit bigger.

I vote for the 6 inch. We sell about a 9:1 ratio of 6 inch vs 4 inch lift kits.

I have a 6" lift and 24" mud tires on my DS. Stock FE290 with governor disabled. With a little (belt sander) machining on the driven clutch and the Extreme Duty belt, my cart has plenty of power and goes about 25mph. Been using it as my around-town car for years.

I agree on the 6" better too much than not enough!
