Governor
Can anyone explain to me how a 2001 DS governor works is there a lever in the differential that actually regulates the carb or is that just an access point on the differential

Re: Governor
Club Cars use a "ground speed sensing governor"...
that lever regulates the engine speed when the gears in the transaxle start turning too fast. |

What would happen if you disconnected the wire from the axle to carburetor and went straight to the gas pedal instead of using the zip tie method

Re: Governor
Good question! I'm not sure, because I'm using a Zip Tie!
But if I had to guess, It would probably work if you could dial it in so the engine doesn't over rev, or bounce off of the rev limiter! There's a few people that just loosened up the tie down bolt on that lever and let it pivot freely on the governor shaft, by-pass the limiter, and installed a tach so they don't go over 5000 RPM's. But, sometimes that doesn't always work if kids, or other people ride the cart and don't pay attention to it! What are your intentions... are you looking for more speed? |

I was trying to get it to go a little bit faster I have a 86 ezgo which I put 20 inch tires on it and I've got to go up to 18 miles per hour and this one right now only goes about 14 but haven't tried it out yet on the bigger tires which are about 19 inches tall and I am in process of making a push bar setup for this one for a race car then we'll see which one has more power thanks for your help

Does anyone know if they make a rev limiter that is for 5000 rpm or is adjustable for the DSS club car

Re: Governor
Here's the deal...
An FE290 9.5hp OHV single cylinder engine, can push 4900 rpm's steady, anything above that will float the valves and the engine will go BOOM! Larger tires, or high speed gears may be the only things to overcome the lack of speed with the minimal horsepower! |

If you put a spring kit either one just for the primary clutch or one for both primary and secondary clutches will that actually lower the top end speed and give low end power

Re: Governor
A spring on the drive (primary) clutch will give you more speed, but will take away from your torque pushing a race car,
A torque spring on your driven (secondary) clutch helps with pushing the race car, but loses the over all top speed! Getting both of clutches machined, and springs added... kind of negates both of them... you get just "a little" better torque, and just "a little" better speed! It's a 9.5 hp engine... there's only so much you can do with it! |

Have you heard about skin cutting secondary clutch to get more top end speed it just brings the belt up on the pully I might be able to fit that on my legs if not I could bring it to work but not sure how much they actually take off each disc
