Yamaha G9 engine swap....
My dad and I are rebuilding the engine in our G9 and we've been told that there is a pretty decent chance we will need a new motor. We're wondering what motor is the best to go with for the price, and I'm also hoping that it'll go a little faster than the stock engine. We were looking at the 420 cc predator from harbor freight but we're really not sure whether or not it will mount in right. Let me know what would be the best bet when it comes to putting a new engine in please.

Re: Yamaha G9 engine swap....
IMO if you want a built clone get the vegas 460 it is worth it. If you have a smaller budget then I like the lifan from home depot online or others have it now. Some use the HF engine but they do seem to have more issues, though many don't have any issues. If you get the HD springs and timing key and remove the governor before you install it will run faster, though if its not lifted HS gears will help you the most. They cost but cheaper than a lifts and tires/wheels and it will fly then. You can get engine mounts and such if you can't make one, from Vegas. My whole swap was cheaper than having it rebuilt at a dealer, I do have a lot of hours into it but made my own mount and everything else, had an exhaust header custom made, fabbed up an airbox system with a car airbox, etc. And that was a price to bring my bare block in to the dealer and swap a rebuilt one. Mine run fine but burning oil, the oil ring commonly goes first. If on sale you can get a clone for under 300. Clone has a lot more power than stock but does not run a lot more rpm so if you don't have a governor on your stock cart the clone does not go much faster. I ran 30 with my stock G9 and 31 with a stock clone, up to 38 with some mods, no governor on any of them, on 22" tires but they measure 23 tall. Speeds via my hand held gps.
