Re: Questions on replacing rear axle fluid on 2010 rxv
That syringe was a smart way to go OJO. I just changed mine the other day. A slow leak was dripping out and tightening the bolts a little bit more didnt help. Glad I did it, was not too difficult. Pulled the plug out from the pan just to get some of the oil out in a more controlled way. Then pulled the whole pan - definitely was low based on how much came out. Liquid gasket on the pan then re-attached the pan. Recommend following the Gasket Maker instructions - hand tighten, then full tighten after an hour, then wait 24 to fill back up. Filled oil through the vent hole - I used some old plastic tubing I had duct taped to a funnel. Tube was too tight in the vent hole so didn't allow air displacement, made a little bit of a mess and 30 min to fill, but still much better than pulling the whole axle. Pictures of the vent plug and pan with plug pulled out before re-install. I was afraid the plug wouldnt create a good enough seal when putting it back in, and then would have to redo the whole thing. So I added just a tiny bit of gasket goo around the lip of the plug. No leaks and glad I did it for a little extra security.

Re: Questions on replacing rear axle fluid on 2010 rxv
Great Steven maybe my rubber hose fits perfect (rubber, not plastic) so it can breath a little. As seen on your pics, it's very important to clean the housing and the pan from old sealant, at least with a little bit break cleaner. With new sealant on the pan back in place, and for me, fully tightening immediately. After approx 30min filling in new oil, that's it. For sure you can wait a little longer and a little extra sealant on rubber plug dosn't hurt. Thank You!
