Re: 2011 precedent charging issues
Spoke to soon...when plugged in charger has delay and turns on.(GOOD). Pegs charger needle over 15 and stays there. After 3/4 hrs, still pegged over 15. Pack voltage when plugged in 51.7 when unplugged...50.8. Charger won't shut off. How long should I leave it plugged in? I don't want to cook the batteries.

Re: 2011 precedent charging issues
At 15 amps You are returning 15AH to the batteries for every hour you run it.
Your answer about how long it takes depends on how much charge you need to return to the batteries. Measure the voltage on the front of the charger receptacle to make sure you are charging all 6 batteries, meaning the charging receptacle red wire is on the pack positive battery post. |

Re: 2011 precedent charging issues
I will check when I get home, I will also recheck the red wire and all battery cables. At what range (pack voltage)does the charger shut off? I'm just thinking (which is dangerous) 50.8 should almost be 100% charged. I believe before this upgrade, the charger would start off full bore and slowly works it's way down untill shutting off. Just trying to get back there.

Re: 2011 precedent charging issues
The final "on charge" voltage can go higher than 62v.
The "after rest" voltage will be around 51v depending on temperature and age of batteries. Are all your batteries close in voltage if You measure them individually? |

Re: 2011 precedent charging issues
I checked them all before the upgrade. They all had 8.1, but I will check again. They are year old Trojans. Temp is around 80 degrees. So, rest volts.....is that checked right after unplugging? Am I not leaving the charger on long enough for it to shut itself off. Just don't want to do damage to anything.

Re: 2011 precedent charging issues
The 8.1v puts your battery around 65% charged.
You really need to let the charger finish the cycle or your batteries will never charge properly. You measure the "at rest" voltage 6 hours or more after the charge finishes. Just keep an eye on the charger current, it should drop once the battery voltage gets above 57v. |

Re: 2011 precedent charging issues
Thanks Sergio, left the charger on for 14 hrs. and it dropped lower and shut off on it's own. Resting voltage 50.8. (Happy camper now!) Thanks for the help!
