Default Obc charging question

Forgive my ignorance but how does the obc know that the charger cord gets plugged in? I know grey is the trigger wire for the relay in the charger but how does the obc know when to trigger that wire?

When it senses 48v on the grey wire.
Relay coil positive comes from the Red positive from the pack when the charge cord is plugged in.
That voltage goes across the coil and then back to the OBC on the Grey wire. The OBC detects voltage there and then switches the grey wire to negative to turn on the relay.

Got it. Makes sense. It monitors grey until it “sees” voltage then triggers to pack negative to close the relay. Trying to help someone remotely troubleshoot a cart run and charge issues. Thinking obc might have failed. I will see it tomorrow so we will see. Thank you sir. I still need to get him a 3/8 fuse. His broke so we put in a 1 amp.

Cart I am trying to help with has a no run no charge situation. Asked David about it some and told him the grey charger wire fuse was now bad. Guy broke it trying to get the assembly apart but he told me that wouldn’t cause the no run and to check the fuse in the red wire near the solenoid. Guy can’t find that but the reverse buzzer is working. From looking at the diagram wouldn’t that mean that fuse is good? Any more fuses? Thinking the obc might have bit the dust.

What year is it?
What drive system?

Sure sounds like the OBC took the dirt nap.

OK, should have a triangle shaped connector going to the OBC with 3 wires in it. On the cart side of the connector Jumper the Yellow wire to the B- terminal of the controller. Yellow is the negative from the solenoid, and should then allow the solenoid to work, and the cart to move.

You can also test the charger function by jumping the Grey wire to pack negative then plug the charger in. It should turn on and at least make some noise.
Those two tests will confirm if the OBC has failed.

Got it. So the buzzer working tells me the fuse is good.. I going to look at it this afternoon and will report back. He may not like the idea of buying a new charger but oh well. Better than replacing the obc

OBC is like $250. A Modz Max charger is about the same.
A Lester Summit II is $350 ish depending where you get it and which cable you put on it.
A little more setup to program the summit II but it's made by Lester, and has a 4 year warranty.

It’s a shame someone hasn’t come up with a board similar to control board in the 36 volt powerwise ezgo chargers made for 48 volt lot of old good obc bound chargers out there
