Default 1987 Club Car Not Charging

I have a new to me 87 Club Car. Runs good, it had been sitting a long time when I got it, had to do the normal stuff to get it going again.

It is not charging. 12v when its off. 11.5v when running. If I jumper the DF post on the generator to ground I get 13.5v at wide open throttle.

Any input?

Could be a poor connection somewhere. Make sure all the cable connections on the SG are clean also make sure the ground for the SG is clean.

Most likely it is worn brushes in the SG or the field coil in the SG has a short.
Check the brushes through the brush inspection holes. If they are totally worn down then it may be worth replacing them. If they appear to be OK, then it is more likely the SG needs to be replaced.
You can test the resistance of the field coil with an ohmeter. Disconnect the battery before testing.

This is from the service manual for a 95 Club Car but should be the same for yours.
Quote:
Disconnect the yellow wire from the DF terminal and the black wire from the F1 terminal on the starter/
generator. Using a multimeter set on ohms (Ω), place the red (+) probe on the DF terminal and the
black (-) probe on the F1 terminal. The reading should be between 4.5 to 5.5 ohms (Ω).
If the reading is incorrect, a possible grounded DF terminal and/or grounded field coil may be the
cause.

Any particular brand you recommend? The one on it looks brand new.

Brushes looked good, meter read 5.8 ohms when I tested it. But tonight the yellow wire was only putting out 7 volts. Its gotta be messed up somewhere. Im going to get a new one on the way.

I got the new starter generator and voltage regulator installed. I'm getting 12.5 Volts at about half throttle. Still seems low to me, but technically I guess its charging. Thing is frustrating me.

Did you ground the DF terminal and make sure the new starter will put out over 15v?
The regulator can be bad, but if the starter itself is unable to output voltage then there is still a problem.

Have you load tested the battery? If one or more cells are shorted, the charging voltage may not reach what you expect, even if the SG is putting out fully rated amps.

The new sg puts out 16.5v. I do not have a load tester for the battery. I replaced the sg and voltage regulator at the same time.
