Default Speed vs Torque motor Heat

I have a 48 volt series cart with a plum quick Rattlesnake motor. Now according to PQ the rattlesnake is a good "middle of the road" motor with good speed and torque. I find myself lately driving on loose sand roads at a lower speed which is heating up the motor and it starts to whine when you accelerate after a period of time. Give it a half-hour of cool-down time and it is fine again. would a torque-style motor have the same issue or does it seems to use more amps to offset the heat issue.

An electric motor whining is fine but do monitor the temperature. Remember that all electric motors change their internal characteristics when heated.

Driving on sand is kinda like constantly climbing a hill, even if it's packed sand it still causes a lot of drag on the tires.
You can lower tire pressure some to try to compensate and get them to float a little more on the sand, but if it's something you will do on a regular basis I would change to a torque motor. You will lose top end speed, but gain power in the low end and will reduce your motor temps at least slightly.

Agreed. The choice between torque and speed is a decision many cart owners struggle with. The question I hear is 'I use my cart to hunt the GA hills and I want my cart to be faster than my neighbors. What motor should I get'
Honestly this person should get 2 motors. Throw the torque motor in for the hunting season and put the speed motor in for racing around.

Currently I'm running an Admiral long stack B14 (same as A14 with a different spline) and 21" tires, it is strong enough for any terrain and fast enough for anybody with the common sense to know 25 mph is fast enough in a cart designed for 1/2 that speed. This might be a motor you want to look at.

A motor built for torque will run cooler under a high torque situation and a motor built for speed will run cooler under high speed use... however. Both situations can result in excessive amperage draw, especially under low battery charge, resulting in unwanted heat.

Bingo - They work pretty good for light to medium loads. No rock or firewood hauling. We have tractors for that work.
