OBC wire going through middle hole in OBC

1999 DS 48 volt . What does the - battery cable going through the hole in OBC. Do? What is its purpose? Will it cause the charger to NOT SHUT DOWN?
Batteries are new.Charger gets down to 5 amps and did not shut off after 10hrs. The battery - cable is ran around ( Bypassing) OBC and direct to controller.

Cable goes through the obc so it can sense current and handle charging. It will also sometimes shutdown the controller if it doesn’t sense current

The OBC aka on board computer controls the charging by monitoring both the draw down and the replenishing of the batteries. The Charger used with the OBC has no control board. It cannot charge properly on its own.
Your options are as follows:
1. run the cable through the OBC so it can do its job
2. buy or make an OBC stud kit. Cut and connect the main Negative cable onto both ends of the stud. So the power goes thru the OBC and the OBC can do its job.
3. Get a smart charger with a brain that works independently form the OBC. Make the few small wiring changes to bypass the OBC as laid out in this forum

I just replaced my batteries and was having the same issue, charger would not shut off after approximately 10 hours . This was my first charge after installation. I checked the pack voltage while the charger was connected and it was at 58v. At some point shortly after it 58.8v it finally shut off.

Have you measured the voltage while the pack is charging?

59.6 volts and 2 batteries boiling mildly. So new cable that goes through OBC is in order First thing in the am.

Ran new 4 ga cable through hole in obc. Checked with 2 different known good chargers.61 volts and mildly boiling batteries. Did obc bypass and a new DPI Accusense charger and works perfect. OBC was bad.. All is GOOD NOW !
