EZGO plug and cord

What is the small wire used for that is in the rectangle plug?
Its about a 16 ga.
Does it have to be hooked up?
Can I use that cord on another type of 36v charger or vica versa?

Are you talking about the charger recepticle? Mine is 10ga wire and is attached directly to the + and - post of the battery pack.

It has to be hooked up if you are intending to charge your pack.

Welcome to BGW.

If you are referring to the Plug at the end of the cable attached to the charger, the third (smaller) wire is used to sense battery voltage via the Aux. contact in the plug.
If the cart's battery Pack voltage isn't high enough, the charger won't turn on.

There is also a small wire in the charger receptacle mounted on the cart. It is used to prevent the cart to be driven away while connected to the charger and is sometimes bypassed, so it may not be connected. (The wire from the controller that shuts down the cart that used to be connected there is now connected to B+)

When asking questions, it is best to include year, model and type of cart as well as charger info if the question is about chargers.

Its a 2006 cart. I was promised a charger with it when I bought it a short time ago. But no avail, like getting blood out of a turnip. I do not want to spend several hundred dollars for a new one. I found a couple of manual timer chargers for about $150. I do know that the automatic chargers will not kick in until the batteries read 31.5v. So the male plug configureition is the only difference?

If you haven't already bought an old manual charger, this is cheaper and better.

Manual chargers were used for years, but you have to be careful with them or you'll be buying new batteries sooner rather than later.

To answer your question. For a manual charger, just wire up the + and - and forget the third wire
