Default resistor/diode necessary

Had a local golf cart dealer tell me that the resistor and diode connected to the solenoid are a waste of money and most dont use them because they end up causing problems in the long run.

After reading about them...sounds like they are a necessity.

Any thoughts? Thanks

Your dealer is in a very small minority who think they are smarter than the engineers who design the protection a pre-charge resistor (for longer controller life) and a diode (for flash back voltage absorption) give to your controller. A waste of money!? They cost about $10

Thanks ScottyB! I agree completely. $10 extra to protect a $400+ controller is a no brainer to me.

One other question...is it possible for a diode, if installed backwards, to ruin a controller?

Thanks again.

I don't think so...... I have seen that situation blow a peddle box micro switch but not ruin a controller.

Thanks ScottyB...I tested the pedal micro switch and it checked out but will retest it. I have a PDS that I think has a blown contoller but hope I'm wrong.

The buzzer buzzes whether in forward or reverse when key is on. Getting nothing when pedal is pressed...not even solenoid click.
