1992 Yamaha g8 Electric to gas conversion...Attempt
So I picked up for next to nothing a 1992 Yamaha g8 that had a good body and frame. I was told all it needed was batteries and tires. Being my first cart, I figured that was easy enough, but still skeptical. I start looking at parts and notice it was missing the controller also, so batteries and controller....looking at $650 in parts and thats assuming everything else worked for me. I was going to risk it, so I decided to go gas instead. I have seen/read every video and article I could find over last month reference this. I am just starting this and give myself most of summer to complete.
here is estimated final Summary of what this will have, might change based on tweaking: Cart-Have 04-12-13 13Hp Lifan Electric start motor from Home Depot (3 year Warranty :) ) Have arrived 05-08-13 Comet Forward/Reverse Gearbox, Torque convertor 40 series, chains, sprockets etc-too be ordered very soon 05-08-13 Set of 20x10x10 wheels and All Terrain tires (to be ordered when cart is assembled and verfied it will work. New Paint Job-Just put fist coat on-05-07-13 Diamond plate Floorboard, Kick panels, Rear bumper, front bumper , rear floor New Seat Covers when Paint is complete Im sure im forgetting something but here we go. |

Here is original Paint from previous owner, it was in decent shape, but had to go:
(sorry pictures will be from camera phone if hazy) Cutout Battery support stringers left some to support starter battery, mounting motor to swing arm to keep everything tight/aligned without a tensioner: New Motor, will remote mounting gas tank to original electrical plug location if possible. First coat of paint-first time ever using a spray gun, have some overspray on the sides I will have to sand, but im pretty happy with first coat, planning on 6 coats or so. This is rustleum oil based enamel gloss sunburst yellow |

Re: 1992 Yamaha g8 Electric to gas conversion...Attempt
At this point I will not be lifting it unless necessary for engine clearance to keep budget as low as possible. I will be going with 20" Tires I do believe but that is a ways down the road, as I dont plan on ordering until i know she will run as intended.
As far as not seeing pictures im not sure, I uploaded via imageshack and see them on all 3 of my computers... This is a fluid work in progress im really on taking it step by step. I also have a small brake issue to deal with, for some reason it doesnt want to release the brake pads within the drum the cable works just fine and the enable, I took it apart and im guessing I need a new spring somewhere to pull it back together when no pressure applied. Im new to drum brakes so dont know really which one needs replacing. |
