Re: 1991 Club Car - Clone
That is an issue when you use the stock clutch and go to a key start. Some clutches you can get a center roller for but I don't know what ones. Did you try a lower idle speed, does your clutch have a spring in it? (the engine clutch, the primary) If it has a spring make sure the belt is not too tight. A new belt will be sticky, it will normalize after some use, so if its new wait for a bit maybe find some dust to drive through.
The secondary is always engaged. The issue is the cart transmissions have a neutral and only dog clutches. Once it starts spinning you are done, you have to shift really quick. Any belt drag will spin the trans. Some old sleds used brakes on the secondary, I think it would not be that hard to rig up a brake pad to go against the secondary if you have a steel sheave (on the outside of it). Just a little pressure on that while shifting would do the trick. Any pad off a car disk brake on an arm would do it. One could even put an actuator on it maybe from an old door lock, then a micro switch on the sifter that went on in the neutral zone. Or just a small foot or hand lever would do. |

The stock clutch has weights, no spring. Thinking that if I got a clutch w/ a spring it would help alot? I still have alot of tweaking to do with the motor alignment too... Thanks for the tips and advice. Like the brake idea on secondary.

Re: 1991 Club Car - Clone
My stock CC 91 clutch had the roller bearing in it. Seems like the bearing would help so long as the RPMs are low enough so that the clutch does'nt start to engage. I would worry about the longevity of the bearing though. Its kind of light duty and really wasn't designed to allow the engine to sit spinning all of the time.If you run the engine like the original using the stock starter generator so that it starts and stops from the gas pedal you'll eliminate all of your problems.

Re: 1991 Club Car - Clone
A clutch with a spring will help a lot, you can also shim the spring a little tighter to raise engagement or buy a longer one. That is the problem with yamaha they have no spring so they just engage right off idle. This is great for a smooth takeoff in a stock cart, but not so great if you don't use the stock starter.
Right the brake on the secondary would not have to be that effective, you are only stopping or keeping still the clutch for belt drag....not stopping the whole cart. Just an idea I had if you can't get a different clutch or whatever. It might work fine on an alum secondary since it will not be moving on it much just holding it mostly. |
