Remember a voltage potential does not mean current flow. If you have a battery sitting on the floor with nothing connected to it and you put a meter lead on each terminal you will read the batteries voltage and you know there is no current flowing. When connected to both terminals you read potential current flow. He is doin the same thing at the floor or frame? So. it's a potential circut. Some lighting does this. NO? Years ago, I remember being totally confused when circut chasing malfunctioning blinkers and finding fantom grounds that disappeared when POS was present. It's been awhile.......was it the flasher? |

The next test is to verify there is some real potential for current. You will have to make your own tester here. Since it is a 48V system string four 12V lights in series and connect between the battery where you read 50V and the frame. If the lights go full brightness you have a strong path to the frame and then we need to find it.
Use lights that can draw some amps like 55W halogens or headlights. |

Re: I'm a little shocked!....
I don't have the cart right now, I will try some tests when I bring it home next week. Some addtional info., I do have a radio/antenna running off a 12v. My headlights are run off the main pack b/t two batts. As I remember it the only reading I got off the frame is when I put the pos.tester lead on the pos. term on the first batt. in series and the neutral test lead on neg. term on the last batt. in series. It tests the pack at 49 or so, and when I put the nuetral test lead to the frame....same reading. This was the only way I got a read from the frame in all the combinations I tried. Thanks for all the input so far.

If you used automotive accessories it is possible one of them grounded the pack negative to the frame. This is what napalaz was pointing out.

Is any of the accessaries mounted to metal of the cart? If you are getting the same reading off the frame as on the two batteries I would check the bottom of the first battery. It may have the link to the frame.

The antenna mount is touching the frame, but I will check all batts., I recently noticed some corrosion on the batt. posts.
Thanks everyone. |
