FE350 Flywheel removal
I process of installing timing advance key. To save time can anyone tell me if the flywheel shaft threads are RH or LH. I assume RH but you know what happens when you assume!!

Re: FE350 Flywheel removal
I installed a timing advance key also... but for the life of me, I can't remember which way it loosened!
I do remember however... it wasn't REALLY tight! Wait a minute... For 97+ Clockwise FE engines, my manual says Right hand threads... Clockwise to tighten, Counter Clockwise to loosen! 014.JPG 015 (2).JPG 016 (2).JPG |

Re: FE350 Flywheel removal
Sounds reasonable to me. I have access to a decent air impact. Should help the cause.

Re: FE350 Flywheel removal
It may "sound" reasonable... but getting the engine shroud off with the engine still in the cart is a major task! (and a half!)
I literally had to remove the trans to engine bolts, the engine to pan bolts, the drive belt, and the exhaust, and turn the engine cockeyed just to get the shroud off! Just a heads up! |

Yep. Engine is sitting on my workbench now. I read the posts and figured I'd go the hard way.

Re: FE350 Flywheel removal
Lockman, was there a noticeable difference? I have the 290 and mine is a little sluggish since I put on 12" wheels.
Thanks |

I noticed a pretty nice change with the timing advance key in combination with a severe duty drive belt, better low end torque, and a quicker ramp up speed to WOT pushing my 25" tires. |

Any help with the torque on the flywheel nut would be appreciated.

Re: FE350 Flywheel removal
Not too late. I'm being very careful on this one. Don't want to have to do-over.
Thanks for the info. |
