Parking Brake latches all the time
I'm building a 97 club car gasser for my son in law and have hit a snag. The cart doesn't stop and when you press the brake pedal the parking brake latches automatically. I haven't done anything to it yet except take the body off and install a lift. Don't know of prior condition as it just showed up at my shop one day. Kids! I did a search but couldn't find much except for the opposite situation. Thanks for any help!

Re: Parking Brake latches all the time
Do you still have the spring on the parking pedal to keep it in the off position?

Re: Parking Brake latches all the time
Yeah the spring is still there. It almost seems as if the connecting rod is too long. I wasnt sure if I should adjust for actual braking operation first, adjust that rod to be longer, or if the sequence of adjustments even mattered. I also wasn't sure if the governor being bypassed had anything to do with it as I've read at least one account of someone bypassing the gov. and it affecting the parking brake.

Thanks a million Lockman! I'll start there and see if I can't get this squared off.

Re: Parking Brake latches all the time
Just thought I'd give an update in case anyone else experiences the same situation. Aside from actually adjusting the brake cable tension, I had to remove the parking brake pawl and connecting rod as they had seized together not allowing the pawl to disengage. After liberating the pawl from the rod with some heat and cleaning each part with some 400 grit and lubing, everything worked like a charm upon reassembly.
