Club Car squeals
I have a 1992 Club Car gas, often times when trying to start it, it does not turn over but squeals (while looking at the belt(s) I do not see either one slipping. Can a bad clutch cause engine to be locked up and not turn over? Is their something internal to the clutch that would sound like a belt squealing? Can I remove the drive belt and try running it with no adverse effect on the clutches? I have seen opinions not to every run without the drive belt installed, just looking for another opinion. One other thought about this problem, could something internal in the motor starter generator make a squealing noise? If I keep hitting the gas peddle numerous times, then the engine turns over and starts.

Re: Club Car squeals
The "squeal" is he starter/generator belt. You don't see it slipping because it's the starter pulley spinning and not pulling the belt with it that is causing the noise. Check the tension and the condition of the belt. Too lose is bad, belt "V" worn shiny or dry rotted to crumbly are also bad.

Re: Club Car squeals
Thanks I already finally figured that out, that the pulley was slipping on the belt. Since the belt had been slipping a long time I will go ahead and replace it even though the belt is not been on that long, but now it is glazed.
