Default New to me '89 DS

Hello, I have a new to me 1989 Club Car DS. I have never owned a club car and am very unfamiliar with them. Please chime in with what ever info you can about the cart based on my pictures. (engine size, make, etc)

I'm having a problem with it where it seems to be flooding itself. After sitting for a while it will run pretty well, but it will start hard, smoke a little bit and then finally run well at higher rpm. The issue is the hard start and after stopping, it will have an even harder start or not at all. It will usually flood itself and then start pouring gas out of the "vent" line off the carb onto the ground and gas will spray out of the intake into the air filter.

I set the screw to 1.5 turns out, and it made no difference.

Please let me know about what i need to do to fix this and proper carb adjustments.

Also does anyone know what the exhaust is that is on my cart?

I am pretty experienced with carbs on jetskis, but never worked on a golf cart carb, i think they should be simpler on the carts.

thanks

Those have the Kawasaki KF82, 341cc flathead engine. Sounds like the problem you're having is a float / needle / seat kind of issue. If you haven't yet, the place to start would be to pull the carb off and REALLY clean it out. Doesn't take much "gunk" in the float bowl to foul things up.

Sounds like you have some dirt keeping the needle and seat in the float bowl from sealing and keeping the fuel level down. That may be why you're flooding out.

Your cart is the same as mine (an '87). These carts have a Kawasaki KF82 (also known as an FZ340) flathead engine that is rated at about 8hp. The KF82 motor was used in Club Car golf carts from 1984-1991. As far as your exhaust question, your cart's exhaust looks just like mine, that's the stock exhaust (?)

Ok thanks for the info, after posting last night I started thinking that it was probably a float/needle issue. Idk why but i just thought that was some kind of aftermarket exhaust, but its good its not. Should just removing the carb and cleaning be enough, or will I need a carb rebuild kit or just think about replacing the whole carb?

Also does anyone know the proper screw settings for this carb?

Also does anyone know where I can get a new air box for my cart. On the existing one, the spots for the bolds are all broken and it it being held together with zip ties. buggiesunlimited.com doesn't appear to have it neither does golfcartpartsdirect.com...

You should be able to clean the carb without a rebuild kit to fix your issue. Or you could just grab a new one. I have the shop manual for these carts. I'll see if I can find the page that details the settings.

Those airbox assemblies are not available new anywhere as far as I know, you have to find one from an old cart. Which part of the air box do you need? The outer housing that holds the filter?

Im not at the cart now, but i think i need both parts for the air bix, the part that attaches to the carb, and the part that holds the filter.

Let me know if you find the page about carbs settings

Thanks
