Default 88 Club Car DS Gas rear axle tube O.D.?

I'm sure this has been asked before, but anyone know the rear axle O.D. of an 88 CC DS Gas cart?

I actually looked for this the other day and couldn't find anything conclusive on the web. Best way I can think to get that measurement would be to just "pinch" the axle tube with a c-clamp, then pull it off and run a tape measure across the gap.

If that's case I'll measure mine when I get home. Should only take 2 minutes to do.

I have a 87 club car. Just got done building my lift. I used the "U" bolts as my measurement. They are 2.5" U bolts.

I probably over did it BUT..... I used 1/4" plate. cut 4 pieces 4.5"x5", 2 pieces 5x5, 4 pieces 1"x5" and 2 4x4. The 4 4.5x5 are the sides. I used a 2.5 diamond hole saw to cut the notches out for the tube, then finished them off with the sawzall, (so it creates the "U"). Then I measured the existing plate for the holes. Set up the top plate so the outside holes (closest to the wheels) are 1/4" in from the edge. Then set up the rest of the holes off those. The extra steel (on the inside) gives you a place to weld a 1/2" bolt for mounting the shocks. After drilling the proper holes, the 1" pieces are the spacers between the plates. Weld those together then weld the top plate on. NOT done yet.... lol, now you need to make 2 more plates. To hold the leaf springs on. Drill the 5 holes in each plate. These are the 4x4 plates. The inside corner may need to be cut off so the shocks will mount correctly. I used ( 8 ) 8" bolts to hold it in. I also used a piece of 2.5" square tubing to lower front of the carriage.

EDIT: The use of the 1" spacers is to make up the 1.5" space on the old perches.
