engine swap for my 86 e-z-go
I am debating on using a motor that i picked up for free. I dont know if this will work or not but here are some specs from it. Please let me know what you think.
1. Cummings Onan is a company that produces power generator engines for residential and commercial use. The Cummings Onan P218 engine is just one of many of the different engines offered by the manufacturer. The P218 is a power air-cooled generator engine introduced in the mid-1980s. Knowing the specifications for the P218 will help you to understand whether it will suit your particular needs and purposes, saving you time and money in the long run. Watts, Design and Starting 2. The P218 engine operates at either 4,000 or 5,500 watts. The P218 engine uses a revolving field design with an automatic starting system. Cylinders, RPM and Weight 3. The P218 engine is a two-cylinder engine which runs at 1,800 RPM and weights either 216 or 258 pounds, depending on the model. Performance Features 4. The horsepower of the P218 engine is 10.3 bhp, with a displacement of 47.7 cubic inches. The compression ratio is 6.9:1 with a bore of 3.25 inches and stroke of 2.87 inches. |

Re: engine swap for my 86 e-z-go
NOT, I'm guessing it is a little diesel. 240 # WOW your paylaod for an ezgo is what ,600. so you could haul one person around. You wouldn't have reverse and with the added weight of the engine the thing would now weigh 1100# instead of 850. Be a mother to push backwards. Not to mention it only turns 1800 where the 2pg turns 3500 or so. But it sure would be a slow brute. Sell or trade it off for something that will work better and weights 200 pounds less

Sticker on the blower shroud say "regular unleaded", Mike, check your other post for reply as well.
Try to keep it in one thread. Here's what I posted to the other question: Mikeevans, what kind of cart are you wanting to put the Onan in? It will depend on two things, The cart, older two cycle carts don't have a transaxle with reverse. The motor, will depend if you can get a clutch for that tappered crank or a bushing made. Do a compression test before you spend alot of time/money on it, might be in the bushes for a reason. More info on cart? edit: you might get lucky and get it running, have the welder check out Ok and sell it! Then call Tom at CCP and buy a big block kit. |
