Default 1983 EZGO nice and Slow

O.K. The motor is fine its just at the driven clutch does not fully engage. Took the nut off and there was a homemade spacer and nutting else except for the bolt. Is this normal, looks like there should be some kinda bearing there? Thanks ahead for any help.

There must be a spring in there as well as the driven clutch sheaves are spring loaded together and the belt, at rest, is up at the outer edge. As the engine starts to spin, internal flyweights cause the drive clutch sliding sheave to begin to move in along it's main shaft toward the fixed sheave, thereby squeezing and effectively shortening the drive belt. This squeezing action tightens the belt, which in turn forces the driven clutch sliding sheave to move away from it's fixed sheave against the pressure of the spring thus changing gear.

It is quite common for guys to place a spacer against the spring to increase the power of the spring and therefore change the time at which the transmission gears up. This has the effect of increasing the low end torque and acceleration although at the cost of top speed. You can also have the same effect by using a slightly shorter drive belt.

If you have taken the clutch apart you really only need to ensure that the sliding sheave moves smoothly on the center shaft. My personal view is that you should avoid lubrication as this will just pick up dirt and grit and increase wear.
