Re: G2 Secondary-Clutch settings
Are you using the umax spring, or stock? The umax that I used, my Yamaha shop said B-3. Now I'm using stock 9 hp.

Re: G2 Secondary-Clutch settings
Thank you responding. I will try B2 tomorrow. I put in the duromax clone with the comet clutch from cartspartsplus. The secondary clutch had never been greased and failed. It ran great gor a couple of days though. I took it apart anf didn't pay attention to the setting. Didnt really know about what to look for. Sent it out got the outer sheave machined and got the power spring. Top end suffered. Didn't like that. Didn't know anything ahout the preload either. Do you turn the inner sheave clockwise or the helix? Did you try the G21 spring? My stock spring looks tired. Its kinda deformed in the middle, but it makes better speed than the power spring.

Re: G2 Secondary-Clutch settings
when people try to get me to order/install the shaved secondary and white heavy spring, i always try to steer them to the U-max spring (about $15). i also run it in mine. the results are more dramatic with the white spring, but the reduced parts lifespan is dramatic also (bad bushings, ate-up input shaft seal/bearing, sliding sheave, or sliding sheave broken). i guess some may call this "gotta pay to play" but it is bad to be selling stuff that will cause trouble.

Re: G2 Secondary-Clutch settings
I'm running the stock secondary spring,no pre-load.I just pushed it in and set the key-way.It shifts perfect.I've seen a lot of posts saying to stay away from the white spring with a Big Block.

Re: G2 Secondary-Clutch settings
Changa, the umax spring is about an inch and a half longer. I put the tangs in B- 3, then wound the sliding sheave clockwise, (i think) so the ramps stay up against the shoes.
I'm very happy with the results , and haven't been able to stop it yet As far as top speed, I GPS it at 27 with limited throttle opening. I have since opened the throttle all the way now, and it is faster, but havent GPS it. |

Also need to get a new secondary for the BB cart. After breaking the input shaft, I think I'll go with all new parts. I'm guessing stock spring, but not sure about the setting. B2?? |

Re: G2 Secondary-Clutch settings
Dave, I put the concierge/umax spring in that 22 as well. And used B-3 again. If you read my build, I think I stated that I thought it pulled harder when shifting up to high speed. I liked the roller clutch better than the one on Spot.
With a BB, hard call for me, I'd talk to Block about going one setting softer. Cause I can tell, the rpm goes up a bit before Spot begins to move. And you have enough torque, you don't need that. But I'd definitely recommend that spring for all cars. Also Plowmans have an "over drive" clutch system now. Dont' know if you can make use of it, but I'd talk to them about it. Just re read, Yes, definitely the umax for a stock cart!! And I might add, do it with the tranny in the car!! Hard job to preload with the tranny sitting on the floor!!! |

Re: G2 Secondary-Clutch settings
I've gotta replace my secondary this winter, the sheaves are pretty beat.I think I'll try the Umax spring when I do it.I was running 24mph on B3 with the stock Briggs muffler,With B2 and a 2-into-1 Header,I GPS'd it at 32!!!And it gets there quick too!

Re: G2 Secondary-Clutch settings
32 must be fun!! Just make sure you have good brakes!!
And Changa, how tall a tire (in inches) not what it says on the side wall? Found a picture of the stock spring next to the concierge spring. This picture is larger in G8 on page 457!! |
