I'm Adding Serious Lights to a Cart!
So I picked up some tail lights for wiring a trailer...
And some lights for wiring the headlights on a utility tractor... Two small yellow strobe lights... Some clearance maker lights... I'm planning on installing two of the headlights in the front, and two on the taillights in the back. Issues to overcome: Finding a Power Source thats powerful enough AND keeps the lights on long enough. Making the break lights operate Making the blinker lights blink Making the blinker lights be able to be switched on and of by the driver How to turn the yellow strobe lights on and off and keep them hidden away where they can not be seen easily. Attaching all the lights onto the cart stylishly. Finding the best spot on the cart to place them. What's planned: An extra 12v power source (battery) installed under the hood of the car. It can be charged manually by a car battery charger I have. I had planned buy a Dynamo hub and run them off the car's tire power, but that's too costly. A car thermal blinker, $5 at a local car repair shop will cut off the power to the blinker and make it blink on and of. Two should do the trick. A wire plate under the break petal so then when the petal is depressed the break lights go on. Two light switches. These will allow the blinker to be switched on and off. A two holes drilled in the front of the cart where the strobes will go. -- pictures of the project coming next week. This will be a comprehensive build and every step will be documented. Suggestions, comments? I've wired many trailers and know this kinda lighting system pretty well. A note about the yellow strobes: I use this cart on property very close to a road (and crossing a road) where cars wizz by at nearly 40 MPH. So while they may not be used I'd rather have them and not use them then not have them and need to use them. While having the cart parked roadside or while crossing they would be useful. |
