Default How do you set up forward and reverse?

OK, Yes I am a noob... to everything! I started out seeing a youtube about "white zombie". a kick @ss EV street/strip car. I have been a motor head for 20 years and am only 25 so... but this car would destroy the hot rod that Dad and I built. so I wanna build a EV.

So I figure I will build a golf cart so that I can start to get the basics of EV. I did a few jobs for a guy, and got a D&D conversion pak for it. I then got an old EZGO that had been pretty striped and was rusted in two pieces.

I have since then took the front half and am building the rest of the chassis out of square tubing and a "live rear axle". I now am waiting for more material and am wondering if I could use the forward/reverse switch that came with the cart. or if some one can tell me where to buy the keyed set-up that I have seen on YouTube. turn the key all the way to the left and it forward, turn it to the middle its neutral, turn it to the right its reverse. is this just a modual, or is that all I need?

specs are:
Alltrax Motor Speed Controller AXE7245 24-72 VDC 450 Amp Peak PM or Series Programmable

Motor D&D ES-15-6 48-72 VDC Series Wound single-shaft

Contactor Albright SW-200CW-3 12 VDC Coil On/Off

Throttle PB-6 Type 0-5K with Micro-Switch

Battery Charger Quick Charge On Board 72V 10A Select-A-Charge 110 VAC Input

Connects battery pack voltage/current to the controller when go pedal is pressed.

Default Re: electrical wiring question(s)

looking a batteries now would 12 6V be better than 6 12V batteries? and when looking at batteries should I just look for deep cycle and marine? and just get the biggest Ah I can right?

12 sixes would give you more run time but I'm pretty sure you can't fit 12 batts in a golf car. The more AH = more run time.

You have no directional switch yet. Once you figure out whether you want a manual lever type or contactor then you can figure out the wiring.
