Default My new dcx 300 started to smoke

I have a 93 marathon series EZGO. I bought this cart used and have replaced everything....almost!
To get started I put in a new DCX 300 controller, then I replaced the White Rogers heavy duty solenoid, diode, and resistor. I also changed out all six batteries.
I had the cart running good for a short time except when I took off I only had one speed; and that was spin the tires fast.
So I put the new solenoid on and the other parts then when I took off I did five laps and smelled a melting coming from in the DCX now if I even touch the pedal it smokes.
Any Idea why or how to fix, don't want to fry another $300 box
And why would it only run fast with no speed control?

Any help appreciated, lost here in michigan!

If you put a DCX controller in a Marathon you just smoked $300.

A DCX controller is for a sepex or shunt wound motor

All Marathons are Series wound motors. Use the AXE line of Alltrax controls.

Sorry that took so long ..... even if you had the right AXE control you could have had the wrong throttle input. Did you have it programmed where you bought it?

The model on the control box is NPX4834. I had it installed by my neighbor who works on carts all the time, but like I said it worked good except the acceleration problem then the batteries died after a week or so. so I charged them load tested em and reworked all cables while I was in there. After I put the Heavy duty solenoid I ran it in the yard and it started to smoke. Now If I touch the peddal for a second smoke comes out but the cart still wants to go. Is this controler salvage able? Should I go with another model box? If I put one on how do I know it wont smoke another box, looking for the root of the problem

THe NPX line of controllers has been discontinued due to the high failure rate which Alltrax says is due to incorrect application. Meaning that it is the unit people choose because it is the lowest in price when it is suited only as a stock replacement for use on a non modified golf cart.
I'm not sure if the NPX has trouble shooting codes? Can you tell us what signal you are getting from the LED. if any?

The accelerator problem you describe is typical of a mis matched throttle input and controller program.

No code shows at this time. If there is a high failure rate and it is under warranty will they fix the problem in cases like this. Also do you have an alternative to fixing the problem you can suggest

Is your golf cart modified? Are you using it for anything other than golf?

All I have replaced is stock, no lift and 18" carlisle tires, this cart came out of an auto plant. My yard is rather flat and I ride on pavement or flat grass 90% of the time.
