Re: wont start/ timing?
hmmmm.... fires at the same time. sounds strange. why make a 2 cylinder to run it like a 1 cylinder? oh well. i really hope the internals are good to go. maybe im trying to start it backwards? what direction is the starter supposed to spin? the wiring looks ok. but something the po did could be reversed.

Re: wont start/ timing?
If both your pistons are coming up at the same time and you have good compression, all is good on the low end. strange sounding or not. Tearing into it is a personal decision. If im not mistaken, the starter spins conunterclockwise the drive the drive pulley in the foward direction.

Re: wont start/ timing?
Just to clarify your earlier question. The two pistons do move up and down together, as do all straight two cylinder engines and strangely enough they also spark at the same time, but they do not act as a one cylinder.
As piston 1 moves up to top dead center piston 2 is at the end of the exhaust stroke. As 1 goes down under power 2 is force down by inertia on its intake stroke. 1 then comes up on exhaust and 2 up on compression and around and around we go. The reason that they spark at the same time is that these simple engines only have one trigger and one coil with two leads. Thus at top dead center on 1 both plugs fire on 1 the gas is exploded but on 2 you are at the top of the exhaust stroke so it is just a wasted spark. Dave |
